As we let the force of life run through us, we begin to see our mind wonder, create, our heart feel joy and care to play, our feet get smart and walk towards the light.
The path may be through the dark, a strenuous journey, or it may be lit and broad. It may be down a winding road or up a steep rocky hill. It may have us skip gleefully or crawl in desperate hope. Either way, it has us choose to live, to trust that this experience, this thought, this impetus, expands us and our possibilities.
Inspiration is a flow, a momentary impulse that we choose to hear or ignore, that we choose to follow or shut down. The inspired ones are those who listen and live in service of the gift.
Growing in our shoes involves attending to our secret garden, our inner world.
This nurturing takes consistency, repeated care and showing up to the task, until our strength is real enough to be tapped into.
The process takes patience, and faith that the garden knows exactly how to grow.
A major impediment to inspiration and flow is those things we do on auto-pilot, those actions and thoughts that are scripted in our lives unquestioned, create familiarity and softness, but really mirk our waters and keep us stuck.
In keeping ourselves fresh, we tend to our garden, we keep the soil ventilated, make room for luxurious plants to grow.
Inspiration does not force its way in. It comes and fills free space, in our hearts, minds and time.
Our attachments, presumptions, expectations and habits are blocks that narrow our vision, lock our thinking and codify our relationships.
When we walk the unchartered route, at the unpredicted time, and bond with those present as opposed to longing for the absent ones, we gain the outlook no amount of planning could have gotten us to.
By not depending on anything or anyone we know, we come across the new and the magical.
Masterpieces do not write themselves, neither do grocery lists. Inspiration is not a condition to start working, it is a byproduct of being available for it.
Still, inspiration flows and may not always look all that dramatic and genius like… In the mundane tasks of dotting I's and crossing t's, in the rough drafts, in the attempts that go nowhere, we sweep off the dust and remove the debris under which our treasures are buried.
Agitation is to inspiration what clouds are to sunlight. It deprives us of discernment, flow, authenticity, mindful progress.
When we allow disturbances, emotional or sensory, into our space, we lose our connection to our source, our heart. _
Inspired work is governed by quiet strength, it is steady, an unrelenting wave. It doesn’t bounce, spin and u-turn, doesn’t force its way through, it just moves forward, confident.
Our endeavours take a life of their own, rarely what we thought they’d be as we started. We can stick to our initial plan, and clip these wings that want to grow, or we can figure out how to fly.
Flying means letting go of those ideas that keep us on the ground, giving up what we thought were our assets and now see are our liabilities, and through a new paradigm, unleash power we had not foreseen.
Inspirations are strangers. They don’t look like anything we know, their intentions are foreign and mysterious, and we don’t know what they will do to us.
Defending ourselves against them keeps them out, timid, mute, disconnected.
We can move with caution, tame them, announce our intentions and keep ourselves in check through the discovery, but unless we want to live uninspired, we need the truce.
